The Silence Dogood

The Silence Dogood (pronounced Do-good) is a classic wooden sailing vessel with a traditional gaff rig. Measuring 25 feet long and almost 12 feet wide, she offers an enormous amount of space for passengers. She was built in 1915 by the Crosby Boat Yard in Osterville, MA and many of her historical features remain from the original construction.

Though she lived part of her impressive lifespan under the alias of "Tang" in the freshwater in New York State, her launch this summer into Frenchmans Bay will return the Silence Dogood to her original home in northern New England where she worked the coast for many years as a commercial lobster vessel under sail. Her new name honors Benjamin Franklin, another honorable beacon of the past.

With 96 years of character and rich traditional past, the Silence Dogood offers a truly authentic sailing experience off the coast of Mount Desert Island, Maine.
